Americorp position

AmeriCorps Member/Program Assistant, NYC Family Court Mediation Program Community Mediation Services, Inc. (CMS), a not-for-profit agency based in Jamaica, Queens, is pleased to announce that we are currently searching for a Program Assistant for the New York City Family Court Mediation Program. The New York City Family Court Mediation Program is a court-based program administered by the Family Court in collaboration with Community Mediation Services to provide mediation services to people with custody, visitation or parenting cases pending in court. This position was made possible through funding provided by National Association for Community Mediation's AmeriCorps program, whose mission is to build safe and peaceful communities by developing and promoting conflict resolution and mediation programs with youth, diverse volunteers, and the community. This hands-on position is ideal for a student or retiree. This position requires that the applicant complete at least 34 hours per week.

The position requires an enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual who learns quickly. All applicants should possess an ability to work independently and as part of a team. All applicants should possess a commitment to learn about mediation and a willingness to engage in all phases of job description. This position requires a flexible schedule. This position will require travel between the five boroughs.

Responsibilities will include: .

  • As a full-time member of the program, 1700 hours of service must be completed in a year .
  • Responsible for assisting Program staff.
  • Working directly with Program Director on organizing, scheduling and developing presentations and other administrative functions. .
  • Assisting the Program Director in developing a program designed for Juvenile Delinquents. .
  • Responsible for finding research in connection with the Juvenile Delinquency population and conflict resolution. .
  • Responsible for maintaining all required documentation and written reports, as well as other administrative tasks.
